A collection of amateur videos from Santa Elena

Nearby Waterfalls on the Sand

Fresh water jets spring from atop the "Farallones" (big walls) on the shimmering and soft volcanic sands of the Pacific.

These bodies of fresh water are particularly evident during the rainy season, as they are made of filtered rain water.

Drops of water can be seen even at the end of the dry season (when this video was taken).

A Healthy Ecosystem

Mollusks are a diverse group of animals, and play crucial roles in various ecosystems. Mollusks are vital to healthy ecosystems.

Mollusks are very susceptible to changes in their environment and are considered excellent ecological indicators: their status providing a window into the health of entire ecosystems.

This video shows a healthy and active mollusk in Santa Elena, and showcases Santa Elena’s crystal clear and unpolluted waters, against the shimmering gray volcanic sands.

Nearby "Las Pozas" ("The Pools")

This is a natural swimming pool made by Mother Nature with large lava boulders from the Volcano and and coral from the Sea.

The Pools are located near Punta Cosiguina and can be safely reached during ebb tide.

Around the bigger ones, there are hundreds of small (child size) transparent pools, carved in soft natural volcanic pumice stone.

The bottom of these pools is covered in finely crushed multicolor seashells and coral.

Nearby Estero Padre Ramos (Estuary)

Estero Padre Ramos consists of a large mangrove estuary surrounded by several small beach communities, the largest of which is the town of Padre Ramos.

The area is home to extraordinary natural beauty and one can easily find numerous species of migratory and resident birds, fish, crustaceans, sea turtles and other wildlife
